Final Spread Mockup

The spread begins on the left page, a largely blank canvas. This spread would be the beginning of an article, as the left page is purely introducing the article. The text "Natural Inspection" is size 88  and uses the font size "Yeseva One". The use of this font ties into the front cover, which is also in "Yeseva One". Beneath the title is the "written by" line and sub-line, which introduces the article. These are both typed in "Times Neue Roman", another variation of the serif typeface. The use of serif fonts is to create an elegant, timeless appeal. The abundance of white space on the left page also ties into the intention of using serif fonts. White space  creates harmony when balanced with a busier design, in this case the text on the right page. While some may believe lots of dark, bold text is the key to creating an eye-catching page, the stark brightness of the mostly white page makes the little bit of text much more impactful.

Although the use of white space is important to the sophistication of the spread, too much can make it look bare and boring. To avoid this, the entire right page is filled with text and an image. There are four paragraphs reading from the top, and then left to right. An image is placed in the center featuring a woman staring to the side, almost as if she is looking out the window, or permanently stuck to the page. The design was partially inspired by a spread seen in Vogue March 2021. I chose to design the spread this way to produce an aesthetically pleasing and creative look that's not seen in every magazine. In the bottom corners of each page are the page numbers in size 12.3 font. Page numbers are solely for organization purposes, but are in the same font as the main article for aesthetic purposes.
